The Sport of Rowing

Rowing is one of the most competitive sports in the world. Teams and individuals from all over the world participate in rowing. Rowing is a sport in which you get into a boat either by yourself or with others and by propelling yourself with oars, and you race against other boats. In rowing you can participate in a single by yourself, or in pairs, fours, or eights with other rowers. In pairs, four, and eights, it important to be able to row in unison to achieve the most powerful force which is used propel the boat forward. Teams have boats race against each other usually six boats at a time down a course which ranges from 1500 meters to 2000 meters. The top three boats from the race win medals.

To prepare themselves for races, rowers go through intense training. They work out on rowing machines called Ergs and lift weights. Rowers call the Ergs hell machines. They donít like to erg even though it is supposed to be a supplement to actually going on the water and rowing. It just isnít the same to them.

Rowers arenít the only people that make up the boats. In fours and eights, and sometimes pairs, there is one additional person in the boat called the coxswain. The coxswain is responsible for steering the boat and making sure the rowers are motivated and doing everything they are supposed to. The coxswain also lets the rowers know where they are at in a race because the rowers are facing the opposite way they are going and canít see what is going on behind them. The coxswain is still important even though they do not help propel the boat because they are the ones who control the boat and the rowers in it. The coxswain is the one who guides the boat to victory.

The fans of this sport greatly affect the sport. Their cheers give the rowers and their coxswain new life in race situations. When they hear the fans cheering they get pumped up and they try to push themselves even harder than before. The fans are a big part of the foundation of the sport of rowing. Without the fans the sport would not be exciting and probably not exist.

Rowing is considered the ultimate team sport. It is the ultimate sport for a number of reasons. The first reason is that it takes more than one person to make an eight or a four move. In order for the boat to move it takes an effort from everyone in the boat. The next reason is that it takes a team of coaches to help make a team of rowers win. Third reason is that they fans are viewed as a part of the team because without them rowing would be boring and have less meaning. Finally, all of these reasons come together to make one team, which is a part of one sport, the sport of rowing.††††††††††††††††††††††††† ††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† †††††††††††††††††††††††
