ABOUT ME

I love studying the physiological components of sports and how the body adapts to the demands of exercise. While my professors are very highly educated and clearly demonstrate a passion for teaching, they can only offer a limited selection of classes to teach at such a small institution, which is why I want to pursue further education. I am highly motivated and determined to continue my learning of Exercise Science and would like to focus my attention on the more advanced knowledge behind the field of Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Over the past summer, I was extremely eager to gain hands-on experience and I wanted to apply my academic knowledge in the field. To do this, I volunteered at a cardiac rehabilitation/human performance-testing center that was associated with a local hospital. During my time there, I realized my passion for conducting various exercise tests and my desire to help people achieve optimal health.
Around the clinic, I would help out with any small tasks that the exercise physiologist asked of me. If there was any “down” time at the center, the employees would voluntarily help me practice taking blood pressures, conducting fitness tests, and even tried to teach me the basics in interpreting EKG readings. While most of the exercise physiologists that I worked with did not hold a master’s degree, I realized that my Bachelor of Science degree is merely a foundation for the field of Exercise Physiology. There is an unbelievable amount of new findings in the field of Exercise Physiology and I want to gain as much of that knowledge as I can before entering the professional world.

I am a strong activist for living a meaningful life through eating healthy and participating in daily physical activity. I am particularly interested in educating and promoting wellness among children and teaching families the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. I have a strong interest in pursuing a leadership role within local school districts with the objective to develop higher quality nutrition and wellness programs for all students.
