Mandelbrot coined the word fractal in 1975. By 1990, 5,000 academic papers a year were published with the word fractal in the title. (1) This presentation, for the graduate and undergraduate students in "Geometry" is not meant to be a comprehensive guide to the subject. Rather, it is a gentle introduction to what I found to be one of the more interesting aspects of Fractal Geometry: the human element.
