Pi and the Stock Market
"The geometry that describes the shape of coastlines and the patterns of galaxies also elucidates how stock prices soar and plummet."
--Benoit B. Mandelbrot
In the cult movie "Pi", a mathematician believes that everything in nature can be explained by numbers.
He tries to uncover patterns in the stock market with the assistance of his computer Euclid.
While some of the math in the movie is questionable, one part is based on some fact: It may be possible
to predict the stock market!
Keith Stills used the same techniques he employed with crowd control to study the stock market.
He used several disks of currency data on Dollar-Yen transactions for 1994/1995.
The result? "I could not believe it at first......it could not be that simple....but the results speaks for themselves - Without really trying - the traces were predicting 40,000 transactions ahead of the data
