Highlights of the NSF's calculus initiative:

  • One hundred and twenty seven projects were awarded to 110 institutions.

  • Awards ranged from $1,500 per year to $570,283 per year (usually awarded for one or two years)

  • Objectives deemed important in the projects: Computer use/laboratory experience, applications, and conceptual understanding.

  • Pedagogical techniques most often cited include technical writing, discovery learning, and cooperative learning.

  • This spurred multitudes of conference presentations, journal articles, and workshops.
